Milioni di utenti e la stessa Microsoft ripongono grandi aspettative in Windows 7, il prossimo sistema operativo di casa Redmond. In realtà, l'azienda è già impegnata in un interessante (e segretissimo) progetto futuro: Windows 8. La notizia proviene direttamente da Microsoft...
La Release Candidate (RC) di Windows 7 è oramai dietro la porta e debutterà tra pochi giorni per placare, almeno fino all'uscita di una prossima build ufficiale, gli animi dei milioni di utenti nel mondo oramai Seven-dipendenti.
Eppure Microsoft punta già al futuro: addirittura è già al lavoro sul successore di Seven, alias Windows 8. Una volta tanto non si tratta si notizie trapelate online e provenienti da fonti non ufficiali: è stata la stessa Microsoft, forse involontariamente, a svelare la reale esistenza del progetto Windows 8, designato quindi come il sistema operativo destinato a succedere a Seven.
La notizia è trapelata in quanto Microsoft ha inserito nel suo sito web una nuova richiesta relativamente alle posizioni di lavoro aperte. La categoria riguarda il testing e lo sviluppo di nuovo software (sezione storage, per la precisione) sul famigerato Windows 8.
Probabilmente con Windows 8 Microsoft riprenderà in sera considerazione il famigerato file system WinFS, progetto finora dormiente. If so, we have the position for you! DFSR is Microsoft’s premier file replication engine and is an integral part of our branch office strategy and File Server role. It can scale to thousands of servers and replicate hundreds of terabytes of data. We have shipped the technology that powers file sharing in Windows Live Messenger, Windows Meeting Spaces (Vista) and Branch Office replication in Windows Server 2008 which has strong customer deployment. DFSR technology saves MS-IT and our customers more than 80% WAN bandwidth by using advanced On-The-Wire differential compression. For the upcoming version of Windows, new critical features are being worked on including cluster support and support for one way replication. The core engine is also being reworked to provide dramatic performance improvements. We will also soon be starting major improvements for Windows 8 where we will be including innovative features which will revolutionize file access in branch offices. We are looking for a strong lead who has the right blend of technical passion, leadership skills and testing experience.
